The 8th Art: Accepting

When I was younger, I always wanted to be an artist. When I was growing up, I have done so many things to make myself like an artist instead of being an artist. The traditional seven arts are architecture, sculpture, painting, literature, music, performing, and film. Since I have started my healing journey, then I discovered the new form of art, ACCEPTING. I call it the 8th Art.


We are all self-taught artists


I used to be like that. When I received a compliment, I would immediately deny it.


“You are looking good today.”

“Oh no, just because I have make-up on.”

Or

“I like how you dress.”

“No, it is just causal.”

Or

“You type so fast, you are talented of languages.”

“Um, not really, I type so slow.”


Was I just being humble? To be honest, I couldn’t think of any other way to response a compliment. How many of us have ever escaped from a compliment and almost make the other feel like they had the wrong opinions on us?


What I have learnt to response a generous compliment is to accept it, own it and then say “thank you” with a smile. Accept it gracefully. It shows our respect to others, but most importantly, shows respect to ourselves. We have no reason to reject any compliment from others. The moment when we appreciate it, the joy is two-sided.


Use affirmation as the tool


I was introduced the power of affirmation by Louise Hay who is a great spiritual teacher in the modern world. You need tools to make art, maybe some brushes, maybe a knife, maybe some wood sticks, maybe some clay. To practice accepting , we need affirmations. Look at myself, what are those things I refuse to see in myself? Can be anything: my outlook, my personalities, my identity, my habits, even my experience. You can write down your own list. And then next, what are those things I’d like to see in myself? Once we affirm the reality that we want to attract, the universe will take care of the rest. Create your own collection


I have been using affirmation for nearly 2 months. The whole affirmation thing became magic in my life. I like the idea that using chakras from head to toe as the content for affirmation. You may lying down on the floor or sitting on a chair with eyes closed. Everything you need to say start with “I accept”.


Crown

I accept my spiritual guidance

I accept my intention

I accept enlightenment


Third eye

I accept my intuition

I accept my visualisation


Throat

I accept my creativity

I accept my expression of emotions and feelings

I accept my thinking patterns


Heart

I accept love

I accept giving

I accept trust

I accept forgiveness

I accept my self-esteem


Solar Plexus

I accept abundance

I accept safety

I accept my resources

I accept my personal space


Sacral

I accept my sensitivity

I accept my sexuality

I accept pleasure moments

I accept relationships


Root

I accept death

I accept my physical needs

I accept manifestation

I accept security


Once again, no artist is born to be an artist without practice and effort. The 8th art has no exception. Now, I would say “thank you” to any compliment I receive. Accepting oneself is an invitation for a fulfilling life.
